Our Speaker Yewande Odumosu an alumni of the University of Lagos gave a talk on Designing a tech career road map, with a background in engineering she has worked with top tech companies like Google, etc. She is currently working with Microsoft. After listening to her speech, I would like to point out the major pathways to creating a tech career.

Stage 1 : Evaluate where you are now. This stage is about discovering you(the real you) this also includes finding out your strengths, weaknesses, what gives you joy ?, You have ask yourself some certain questions what do I like? , what’s my weak point? What do I find joy doing?. Once you’re able to give honest answers to this question then you’re ready for your tech Journey.

Stage 2 : Understand your strength and skills Now your answers to those questions will help you find your skills in the different tech roles. Let me give you an instance you’re a pen NFT artist you, you might decide to go into the 3D paint or drawing in Web 3. Now with an understanding of your skills and strength and you will know to get them involved in tech.

Stage 3 : Transition into Tech. Now you know your skills and you might or can get them into tech, give it a try, you can browse about online courses, even take workshops to better your skills, make inquiries from people who have been there before you for better direction . In all that you do avoid jumping into different things at the same time, you might be tempted to board on every moving trend train, please don’t do that to yourself Give yourself time to grow understand yourself and what works for you.

Stage 4 : Differentiate yourself and stages on getting noticed. Now Your Tech journey has began. You must make sure you are up and doing, There are things you need to do to make you noticed and recognized,They include having great work spirit(Teamwork spirit), people with great teamwork spirit are greatly appreciated, make sure people can relay on you, Try showing and sharing your work make sure you update your social media on a stead(twitter, LinkedIn), Make sure you put yourself and your work out there and let your star shine.

Stage 5 : Accelerating your tech journey Right at this phrase, your efforts are yielding very much results, try upgrading yourself by getting certificates from online programming school such as DataCamp, Front-End Foxes and the rest of them. Attend physical workshop or even conferences , listen to Tech spaces on twitter and clubhouse, web seminars. Try getting a yourself mentor or coach.

Summary I'll be very honest with you, Tech Journey is not going to be smooth at first there will be ups and downs, you might break down at some time and you face challenges but you have to pick yourself up and face those challenges head on and await your success. The roadmap is useful to me and I hope it does the same for you. Enjoy your Tech journey.
